Shining a Spotlight on Disaster Preparedness

Responsibility

HSN Cares has partnered with the American Red Cross since 2013 to help the charitable organization fulfill its mission to alleviate human suffering in the face of disaster. Most recently, we have been working with the Red Cross to provide relief and help communities—and the HSN team—prepare for emergencies and disaster situations.

Providing the Tools to Prepare for Any Scenario

As part of our partnership with the Red Cross, HSN Cares set up an Emergency Preparedness resource page where HSN team members and committed customers can:

  • Learn about different types of disaster situations and how to prepare for them.
  • View and purchase survival-kit essentials to help prepare for an emergency scenario.
  • Donate directly to the Red Cross to help provide life-saving services to millions of people in need today.
  • Access a variety of Red Cross resources, including tips on creating a survival kit, an emergency plan, and more.

To date, HSN Cares has raised over $800,000 to support disaster relief efforts, enabling the Red Cross to prepare for and provide shelter, food, emotional support, and other assistance in response to disasters at home and abroad. This all helps further our mission to empower women and help families in times of need.

Emergency Preparedness Starts with Us

As we learned from the  Red Cross’ Jai Kensey, emergency preparedness starts at home—especially given that the biggest disaster threats we face are actually home fires. There are small steps we can all take to help prevent home fires.

  • Install a smoke alarm on every level of your home.
  • Check smoke alarms once a month.
  • Change batteries in smoke alarms once a year.
  • Practice a two-minute fire drill to ensure you and your family can get out of your house in a safe amount of time.
  • Download the Red Cross Emergency App from the App Store or Google Play.

Whether at home or on the other side of the world, the partnership between HSN Cares and the Red Cross is helping families and communities prepare for disasters before they strike.
